The shocking truth about your Superpower

Let’s talk about the very important truth behind what many people think is their superpower…
I hear so many people rave about how great they are at multitasking and how it’s their superpower.
I have even seen people put it as a skill on their resume!
The truth is, multitasking is a myth.
Multitasking is where people believe they can do multiple things at the same time effectively.
In fact, multitasking can reduce your productivity by up to 40%.
So, if you’re spending your whole day multitasking, you’re actually wasting about 40% of your day.
The chopping, changing, the context changing and attempting to do things at the same time, actually slows you down.
While ever you are not focused on an individual task your focus is split, making you inefficient.
Let me give you an example.
So let’s say you’re focused on writing an email.
While writing, your phone pings.
You pick up your phone and see it’s a text message.
You reply to the text message.
The whole process of reading and replying to the text took you maybe 30 seconds.
We’ll that’s how long it appears to take.
Now, you need to get back to the email.
First you wonder ‘Where was I?’
‘Where was I going with this?’
You have now lost your flow and train of thought.
Often you can’t get back into the flow the same as before and all of a sudden what you were writing doesn’t sound nearly as good as it did before the text message interruption.
You may even have to redo the email.
Studies show it can take up to 30 minutes to really get back to where you were before that interruption.
Yep, 30 Minutes!! A bit more than 30 Seconds right?
Every interruption is potentially costing you 30 minutes.
That’s a lot of day. Right?
So if you think multitasking is your superpower, I want you to just slash that from your list of skills right now.
Let’s create a new superpower that will give you time back to spend on things you enjoy.
I want you to be thinking focus is my superpower.
You can complete tasks much quicker.
You’ll be way more engaged in the task and what you’re working on is better quality.
